ANWERS: football home work 8/10/2007
Listed below are 6 Question relating to football sports injuries that occur during a game. What I want you all to do is to answer all 6 questions in full.
1 Please name 5 steps for reducing the risk of injury? 1) make sure you are fit for the activity; this is the best way to prevent injury. If you are feeling ill you should not take part in the sport, until you are fully recovered.
2) make sure you develop the right techniques. E.g. a poor throw in will result to an in- jury.
3) Play at the right level; you should choose a team which matches your physique and your level of skills. It would be dangerous if a 15 year old played football with a senior professional.
4) You should know the rules for your sport and obey them; rules were developed to protect the players as well to test your skills. E.g., in football you may not slide into a tackle with studs up.
5) Warm up correctly, many injuries such as sprains and pulled muscles can be avoided by warming up correctly. This stretches the muscles properly.
6) make sure you are wearing the right equipment, in football the correct footwear is needed to prevent the player from slipping on grass during a Rainey game. Many injuries are due to incorrect footwear.

2 Where does the Achilles tendon attach to? The Achilles tendon is attached to the gastrocnemius, this is also known as the calf muscle.
3 What are the most common causes of injuries in a football game? An injury during football is mainly due to stress on the body, for example a violent collision during football. The most common causes of injuries is due to the players not warming up correctly before the game, the opposition team can also cause an effect, they can carelessly slide into the player with both feet pointing upwards, this can break the players leg which can lead to his/her career being over. The correct footwear is very important during a football game. If you do not have studded boots and you are playing in a professional game it can cause you to slip and therefore cause you a series injury, the weather/conditions can also play a major part as a common injury, during Rainey season most of the players get injured as they slip awkwardly.
4 There are three types of sports injury to the Achilles tendon? Strain, tendonitis and rupture are three types of sports injuries to the Achilles tendons. These can be prevented from a proper warm up and taking care when playing the sport. If your body does not feel like playing you should avoid playing until your body is fit to play.
5 What first aid is used to reduce swelling? When the muscles, ligament, tendons, etc get injured the blood vessels around them also get injured. Blood leaks into the surrounding tissue and this causes swelling, pain and bruising. To aid this situation we use a method called R.I.C.E
R- Rest, keep the body still this prevents blood leaking.
I- ice, place an ice pack around the swelling area.
C- compression, bandage the injured part firmly but not too tight, using a bandage.
E- elevate the injured limb, this reduces the blood flow to the limb, because the blood has to flow against gravity.
6 What is The best treatment for muscle cramp? Cramp occurs when the muscle fibres fail to relax and their blood supply is cut off. This usually happens when the muscle is tired or when your body has lost a lot of salt through sweating. The best ways to treat muscle cramp is to stretch the muscle slowly and gently and hold the stretch or when the muscle has relaxed you can massage it gently. Drink water & salt
